I've always loved the way spring flowers announce the coming of sunny days and the ending of the long nights of winter. I especially love Tulips! Their amazing colors and different forms are no match for the drama that unfolds as they ripen in the vase and seem to bow with such elegance. I knew tulips were on the top of my list of "fancy" flowers to try out for my second full season of flower farming but I had no idea where to start. Tulips are grown from bulbs and so are completely different than my flowers that were started from seeds using soil blocks. They are also a major investment! Seed packs range from $3-$5 per packet with hundreds of seeds that will turn into several hundred stems but tulips are grown from pricey bulbs that only produce a single stem and have very specific growing requirements. When I first started researching how to grow tulips one name kept popping up....The Tulip Workshop taught by Emily Von Trapp and Linda D'Arco. This course has ALL the info on not only growing tulips successfully but also harvesting, holding and marketing those tulips! It has definitely given me the knowledge I needed to start on such an exciting but overwhelming project. I highly recommend!! Now, we just have to see if I'm able to put all that knowledge to work! More info on their course can be found on their website.
